Holiday Glimpses

Here we all had a good holiday despite the weather conditions. Everyone got more than enough stuff, except of course the buns(in their opinion) , though they made out like bandits as the pictures will attest. The "over-the-top" stocking was given to the buns by their aunt and cat cousins as was the "Santa, I've been a good cat" stocking. Their aunt spoils all furs rotten. The furs disapproved of having their stockings imaged with their gifts in them, some fear that said gifts might disappear in the process. Also, the buns refused all Xmas photo ops, so there is a Thanksgiving boxbun photo. (We'll leave out all mention of the bun fight over the stockings: Years ago, Mercedes let Bertie take control of the white rabbit stocking since she could have a bigger one, although plain. Now that there is a huge bun stocking with bells, sequins, velvet, and a pompom, Bertie is maneuvering to relinquish the smaller stocking, or better yet, to add the new stocking to his white rabbit stocking to make up for perceived inequities over the years.)

Happy, Healthy, and Hoppy Holidays to you and yours!

We Need a Little Xmas, Right This Very Minute

This has been a challenging week. The 12 Days of Boxes has been postponed indefinitely, but the buns decided they wanted to open one of their Xmas presents early. Of course, after treats, their favorite presents involve cardboard, so they wanted to open their Tunnel Haven from Binky Bunny.

Presently they are feigning disinterest. Mercedes wants to know why she would want to give up her current box she has so thoroughly customized. Bertie thinks he should fortify himself for whatever lies ahead. Future posts should show the fate of the tunnel--in a number of ways it may not be pretty. Happy and Hoppy Holidays!

Postponement

The 2nd day of the 12 Days of Boxes has been postponed owing to circumstances beyond our control. We hope to resume tomorrow.

Twelve Days of Boxes

In the Xmas spirit, and to chronicle the stages of box sculpting, in the next 12 days I hope to post the life cycle of 2 boxes, 1 square and 1 rectangular. These will be new boxes, sealed either at the top and bottom or the sides, with no holes cut. The object will be to determine how the rabbits will react to said boxes and how the attacks will begin. It is not clear how this research will turn out: it is possible the rabbits will stack the boxes and escape their exercise pen, it is also possible that they will ignore the boxes and begin to tunnel out through the vinyl/concrete floor. Two boxes will be used in order to reduce the choices involved and compress the time period as well as two boxes fit the space better than four boxes.

Today I post pictures of the last of their original four boxes. It did have two holes cut in it, so we will be using this for comparative purposes. On the top left, we have a view of the box top, since there were pre-cut holes in two of the box's sides, there was not much need to attack from above. The top right photo shows a view of the box from the exterior to the interior, it will be interesting to see how the pattern changes when the buns create their own entrances. The third photo illustrates some of the peeling technique used in sculpting the inside of the box.

Veg Monday

"Vegging out" is just another expression that buns interpret differently than humans. The box in the background is the last one standing of the four they received not too long ago. I think with the next set of boxes, instead of cutting 2 entry/exit holes and letting the buns take it from there, I will just seal the top and bottom and allow them to choose their own entry/exit points. I am also curious to see if the boxes last longer this way.

Monday Morning Leftovers

The loneliest veggies are those left over from the Monday morning vegetable massacre. Why is it that some vegetables go before others? Why do some eventually get eaten, however grudgingly? Why is it that some get stashed away, never to be eaten, and are only discovered when a certain stage of decomposition is reached? Why? Inquiring vegetables want to know.

Cyber Monday awaits.

Hoppy Thanksgiving!

Mercedes and Bertie wish everybun a Happy Thanksgiving! They would say more, but they don't like to talk with their mouths full.

Bertie Helps

Bertie is never too busy to help Mercedes manage her diet. Here he obviously thinks she's had too many dandelions and should concentrate on the parsley. He is such a helpful little hyper bunny and carrot thief.

Bun Tunnel Transporter

But there was a bun. A little white bun. He was right there in the tunnel. Where did he go? Oh my ears and whiskers!

Three Boxes to go until Xmas

Bertie and Mercedes present a retrospective outsider art installation of the remaining 3 boxes. By Xmas, if not before, they will be requiring more boxes.

Bertie and Mercedes: "If you ever need to know where your person is at 3:30 am, box deconstruction is better than GPS, especially if done on a hard surface and not carpet. You can get a really good "someone is breaking into the house" effect simply by ripping up the floor of the box: this makes it bounce on the hard floor surface and make a very satisfactory racket. It brings the person every time as long as they have not taken to sleeping with industrial strength earplugs. (We are working on ways of circumventing the effectiveness of such earplugs for a future post.)"

We hope you enjoy our display. We do not allow photographs/videos of the work while it is being done in order to prevent copyright infringement.

Cleocatra Update

Cleo is doing better, her kitty dementia was adversely affecting other issues caused by old age. She is back to hissing at the other cats if they invade her space/try to eat any food that she wants. She has borrowed a one level cage from the buns for those times when she is caught in a circling loop/just wants to shut the door on the outside world. The buns were also kind enough to lend her one of their fleecy mats that they weren't using and now that the weather is becoming more wintry she will probably also use the microwavable heating disk.

The buns will have photo/s of their latest box deconstruction up tomorrow.

Scary Halloween

Cleocatra has been very ill. I was up from 5 am Friday until 8pm Saturday with her. I don't feel much like celebrating Halloween, the trick-or-treaters will be lucky to find any candy--I've eaten most of it out of stress. She is a little quieter now, so I have posted some archival shots. No rabbits, I'm afraid, they don't take to Halloween.

Monday Box Tales

This is the first box to go of the 4 new boxes the buns received in their room remodel. Note how the lower left side is collapsing and how the buns have renovated the box from having 2 entrance holes to pretty much a scenic view on 3 of the box sides. This box is now history and has been removed from their area since they might get hurt if they attempt to climb on the box.

This shows how far they have progressed on box number 2. Their method of box deconstruction seems to involve focusing on one box at a time; they focus their energies for maximum timely results, rather than spreading out the destruction over time and space. Single-minded little destructo-bunnies. Will they have any boxes left by Xmas, or will they need to have Santa Paws put some under the tree? Stay tuned for more adventures of the box buns.

Caturday

Just go on about your business. Pay no attention to the glowing eyes watching you.

Monday Bun on Blue

Mercedes looks a little suspicious here. Why are you disturbing my nap? What's with the camera? What are you going to do with that picture? Don't you know I have image approval on all my photos? My lawyers will be in touch.

Caturday

The three jacks are standing in for the three cats as Halloween preparations continue.

Catthump Day

Fargo demonstrates that cats can be good at self-packing. When I get a suit of chainmail (and another one for the photographer) I will attempt to pack a cat who does not want to be packed.

Monday Bunspection

Bertie has decided it's high time that you were inspected. Of course he has picked a Monday to conduct his inspection. Too bad if you thought Columbus Day was a holiday. Prepare to learn your fate!

Caturday Stand-Ins

The cats are busy with their Halloween preparations so they sent stand-ins. Hope you enjoy the 2 pacing red pandas.

Catthump Day--Zena

Yes, I know it's dark. I like the dark. I can see fine in the dark. I'm not afraid of the dark. Go back to bed and turn off all those darn lights. I am Zena the Warrior Princess and I am in charge of the night.

Monday Bun in a Box

And the box deconstruction continues. The middle part of 2.5 sides of the box has been removed, revealing the bun within. Anyone want to start a pool on when the box will collapse?

Caturday--Halloween practice continues

Remember all you cats out there, it's never too early to get your Halloween look down!

Catthump Day

Halloween practice continues. Who needs a jack-o-lantern when you have an orange cat with eyes like these?

Monday Morning Gossip

The week starts off with a good gossip around the kibble dish to catch up on the weekend news and make plans for the rest of the week. Now, by the sound of it, the buns have moved on to renovating their space yet again.

Caturday Fishing

Fargo says: It's Caturday, take your cat fishing. It doesn't even have to be a real fish--just spend quality time with your cat.
(Here Fargo is playing with his "Pollock fish" a catnip fish toy in a "Pollock" splatter print.)

Catthump Day

Fargo says now that it's Fall, you should be practicing for your long Winter's nap.

Free the Bun Monday

After an exciting weekend that saw the new refrigerator arrive Friday night in time for weekend vegetable storage and the death of the spin cycle on the washer on Sunday , we are happy to report that things (uncharacteristically) on Monday are looking up. The washer has been fixed and can now return to doing bunny laundry as necessary and the cats have been released from their respective prisons (GE repair specifically requests that animals be sequestered, otherwise they won't do the service). Bertie Bun, however, is still incarcerated in the family room with only Mercedes Bun and depleted kibble and vegetable dishes for company. Can you hear his plaintive SOS thumps (Free the Bun! Free the Bun!) where you are? Seriously, he gets stressed out when he's in the living room with the cats and prefers the family room where he can hold sway over Mercedes: he's just into drama and likes to maximize his haul of carrots and bananas.

Caturday

What do you mean you're afraid to go down to the basement? It's not even Halloween yet! You've been watching too many scary movies! It's perfectly safe, go right ahead!

Not Speaking to You

We get off on fifty seven carrots
We get off on a thumping good time
Like the way it gets us
every time it hits us
We've got disapprovin'
We've got disapprovin' hearts.

We didn't cause the refrigerator's compressor to go out. We shouldn't have to suffer. You should have carried the new refrigerator home on your backs yesterday instead of waiting until the store could deliver it today (and between 3-7 p.m.)! We disapprove of having to wait for you to go to the store to get us fresh veggies on a daily basis. You should have a) planted a cat-proof garden so we could get veggies on demand, b)ordered a special rush delivery from one of the organic farms in the area, and c)arranged a field trip for us to said organic farm that included an unlimited tasting session in the fields of our choice. And what about our dinner? That delivery window encompasses our dinner time! When you should be focusing on our needs you are going to be trying to prevent the blind, deaf, and feral cats from escaping out the front door! We disapprove with all our hearts and we are not speaking to you!!!!

Catthump Day

Cleo always operates with her own agenda in mind. As it should be.
